About Real French.net
We are part of the
The NGfL is a UK government site that provides a network of selected links to websites that offer high quality content and information.
Introduction
The realfrench.net website is a collection of online French-teaching resources developed by the Department of Languages and the Department of Information & Communications, MMU.
The project was originally conceived as a means of providing MMU students with self-access materials in French grammar via the internet. However, the project has expanded considerably on this original goal, and now includes messageboards, extensive links pages, a verb conjugator, and France Virtuelle, a collection of internet worksheets aimed at enabling students to visit and learn from French websites.
We are also working on a collection of vocabulary-teaching games and activities, including flashcards, hangman, crosswords, and wordsearch, based on minimum core vocab lists of the three GCSE boards, but also including more advanced vocabulary.
Grammar
The grammar-learning section contains both intermediate and advanced grammar reference materials. The intermediate-level materials contains 64 structure-based units plus word lists featuring numbers, time expressions, countries and weather expressions.
The advanced-level materials embraces both the structural and notional-functional approaches, and in addition contains an extensive introduction to the linguistic histories of French and English, units on syntax, spelling and pronunciation, informal and slang French, writing essays, correspondence via mail or telephone, plus a list of false friends. Complementing both grammar references is a group of interactive self-marking exercises and games using a database of nearly 10,000 sentences.
Who’s behind it?
Chris Dawson is the content manager for Real French. He produces all the content (e.g. grammar notes) and inputs all the information into the systems that run the Vocab games and Grammar exercises built by…
Derren Wilson, the website manager. He builds the pages and decides on the look and feel of the site, despite having the worst French accent in the world.
